Chintaman Ganesh Mandir : A divine place established by Shri Ram and Mata Sita

Known among the devotees by many names like Gajanan, Ganapati, Vighnaharta, Lambodar, Shoorpakarna, Siddhesh and so on, Bhagwan Ganesh is the first worshipped. There are many such mandir of Bhagwan Ganesh located in every corner of Bharat which are centuries old and have a great history with them. There is also an ancient mandir of Bhagwan Ganesh in Ujjain (ancient name Avantika), the city of Mahakal, which is associated with Bhagwan Ram and this mandir was established by Mata  Sita and Bhagwan Shri Ram. Since then, Bhagwan Ganesh has been taking away the worries and sorrows of every devotee who comes to their door and this is the reason why this place of Ramayan era is known as Chintaman Ganesh Mandir.

Built in Ramayan period, renovated by Mata Ahilyabai Holkar :

Located at a distance of about 6 kilometers (km) from Mahakaleshwar Jyotirling, Chintaman Ganesh Mandir is one of the Shat (six) Vinayak established by Mata Sita. During their exile, when Bhagwan Shri Ram, Mata Sita and Anuj Lakshman were traveling in the forests with, Mata Sita established divine places dedicated to Bhagwan Ganesh to fulfill her resolve. Chintaman Ganesh is also one of them. There is also a stepwell here whose depth is about 80 feet. It is called Lakshman Bavari because it was built by Lakshman ji with their arrow.

Present View The mandir was built by the kings of the Parmar dynasty who ruled in the Malwa region. The present form of the mandir dates from about 10th to 12th century. Chintaman Ganesh mandir was renovated by Mata Ahilyabai Holkar, Maharani of Indore and at the same time construction of water tank and boundary wall was also done in the mandir.

Structure of mandir, Swayambhu Bhagwan Ganesh and Major Festivals :

The Sabha Mandapam of the Chintaman Ganesh mandir built with stones is of Parmar period. Beautiful carvings can be seen on the pillars of the mandapam. The darshan of Bhagwan Ganesh in the mandir can be done only from the Garbhgruh but the gate of the Garbhgruh is very small and devotees have to bow down to see Bhagwan Ganesh.

The Vigrah of Bhagwan Ganesh installed in the Garbhgruh is Swayambhu and in the Garbhgruh, besides his Chintaman form, there are two other Vigrah, Ichhaman and Siddhivinayak. Apart from Bhagwan Ganesh, Bhagwan Vishnu is also seated in the mandir and this is a unique mandir where Bhagwan Vishnu is also worshiped along with Bhagwan Ganesh.

The number of devotees increases every Wednesday in the Chintaman Ganesh mandir, which is crowded with devotees for twelve months of the year, as well as the importance of Wednesday of Chaitra month is considered to be more than in the Chintaman Ganesh mandir in Ujjain. On major Hindu festivals, a lot of devotees gather here. Ganesh Chaturthi and Til Chaturthi are the major festivals here.

How to reach Chintaman Ganesh Mandir :

Ujjain is one of the major cities of Madhya Pradesh and that is why all modes of transport are easily available to reach here. The nearest airport to reach Chintaman Ganesh Mandir is located at Indore. The distance of the mandir from Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport is about 60 kms. Ujjain is also connected to major cities of Bharat by rail. The distance from Ujjain Junction to Chintaman Ganesh Mandir is approx 7 kms. Apart from this, it is very easy to reach Ujjain from any corner of Bharat by road.
