Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the great man of Bhartiya politics, had said that Bharat is not just a part of land, but a living Rashtra Purush. Bharatvarsh is an entire nation which is described by our Ved and Puran.
In the Vishnu Puran about Bharatvarsh it is said that :
उत्तरं यत समुद्रस्य, हिमाद्रेश्चैव दक्षिणं।
वर्ष तद भारतं, नाम भारती यत्र संतति।।
That is, the holy land located in the north of the vast Hind Mahasagar and south of the great Himalaya is Bharat and the children of this holy land residing here are Bhartiya.
The above said verse is an archaic proof of integrated Bharat.
There is also an interesting aspect that the Bharatvarsh whom Atal ji has called as the Rashtra Purush, we also worship her as Bharat Mata, so how did the dual nature of the same entity? Which form of our Bharat land is true?
In this article, we will consider some such questions.
In Sankhya philosophy of Hindu Dharm, the basic elements of Sanatan have been described in two ways, the first is Purush and the second is Prakruti. Both Purush and Prakruti do not exist independently. According to the Devi Bhagavat Puran, the physical form of Purush is Shiv, whose balm (left) part of the body gave birth to Prakruti i.e. Mata Parvati, which is a virtuous form of Prakruti, which contains the three qualities of Prakruti i.e. Sattva, Raj and Tam. That is why Bhagwan Shiv is called Ardhanarishwar. According to many scriptures, whatever arises in the universe arises from Ardhanarishwara and after completion of its age it merges into Ardhanarishwar itself. The image of Bharatvarsh is also Ardhanarishwar. While on one hand we see it as a Rashtra Purush, on the other hand we worship Bharat as motherland.
Bharatvarsh as a Rashtra Purush :
The greatness of Bharatvarsh is his Karmayog which he gave to the whole world as a world teacher. Bharatvarsh teaches us effort and inspires us to do our duty. Since time immemorial, our sages and scholars propagated Dharm, knowledge, science, technology and philosophy. Due to all this, even today, our nation looks endowed with all the qualities. Bharatvarsh is the warrior who fought for centuries against fundamentalists and foreign invaders. These invaders inflicted innumerable wounds on Bharatvarsh, but in the end all their graves went under the arms of this Bharatvarsh themselves and they were all buried here. This indomitable courage kept on transferring among Bhartiya. The philosophy of this nation was Karm predominant. Shri Krishn actually addressed Arjun and said for Bharat, O Bharat! You only have to do karm in your power and by doing this you will get me but the result of karm i.e. Karmphal is not in your power. Bharatvarsh has given us the gift of this Karm Ability. This Rashtra Purush is our ideal man to whom all our duties are dedicated. It gives courage, gives the will power to do deeds. Bharatvarsh is a politician who works on the principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. Bharatvarsh is an economist who is the leader of “Integral Humanism”. Bharatvarsh is a supporter of the sociology whose basic principle is “Krinvanto Vishvam Aaryam” i.e. to create a global society that is holy, dutiful and superior. Bharatvarsh is the doctor who seeks medical properties even from a minimal plant like Durva to a huge tree like Vat. Bharatvarsh is the researcher who moves towards his goal without harming anyone, keeping in mind the welfare of each caste. This inclusive trend of exploration and use makes Bharat the best place in the world. The intense duty like a father establishes Bharat as a great nation.
Bharatvarsh as our motherland :
For many millennia, we have been imagining our Bharat in its mother form. It has been said in our ancient texts that “जननी जन्मभूमिश्च स्वर्गादपि गरीयसी” means Janani and Janmabhoomi is more than heaven. Prabhu Shri Ram has said the same about the land of Bharatvarsh. This is also the truth. The earth that nurtures us, is no less than the mother who gave birth. The entire human race is the child of this earth. Also there is a verse dedicated to Mother Earth,
समुद्र वसने देवी पर्वतस्तनमण्डले।
विष्णुपत्नि नमस्तुभ्यं पादस्पर्शं क्षमस्वमे।।
In this verse, forgiveness is prayed to Mother Earth because we first put our feet on the earth after renouncing sleep in the morning. We Bhartiya do not only provide mother post to the land of Bharat but to the whole earth.
In Anandamath, Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay has written a song called Vande Mataram which is dedicated to the land of Bharat. This song of nation describes all the characteristics of Bharatbhoomi that demonstrate the quality of motherhood.
Beyond all forms of humanization, Bharat is an emotion that gives us a common goal, a goal that is intertwined with the combination of Dharm and nation. The Sanatan Dharm of Bharat is its soul. This is the only idea that unites us. For the entire Hindu caste, there can be no more pride than Bharatvarsh. A land that was the workplace of the incarnations of Bhagwan Vishnu and from where sages and mystics preached Dharm across the globe. Regardless of how we accept this land of glory, but we should remember that the wellness of Bharat is at the center of our duties. Whether we talk of a Rashtra Purush or motherland of Bharat, the welfare of the nation should be more than our personal interests.
Nation upliftment is our duty and goal.
जय श्री राम।।
